G25 + GT5 [27 Mar 2008|07:38pm]

ohmisunao
Decided to make this a new post since this forum is silent now..

I downloaded the demo for GT5 Prologue off of the Japanese PSN a while back. It's so awesome! But my GT Force Pro is broken!! :( It won't start up.. augh! So I decided to find out if the G25 Logitech wheel would work with it.. turns out it does!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g2YS5jA4m8 (ignore the lame intro)

The only disadvantage to the G25 is the fact that it doesn't have the PS3 PS button (big whoop) and it also doesn't have the on-the-fly tuning like the GT5 wheel (which is basically just an advanced version of the GT4 GTFP which a lot of us probably have already) The GT5 wheel does NOT have a clutch nor does it have a manual transmission style gear shifter like the G25 does. I think I may have to buy a G25 all things considered..

Way more than just a LITTLE rusty. [20 Aug 2007|05:45pm]

[ mood | aggravated ]

So it's pretty quiet in here, but I thought I'd give this a try.

After leaving my copy of GT4 untouched for a year and a half, I picked it up again. Since I deleted my memory card, I had to start all over.

You know the race you do on Laguna Seca to get your B license? The one in the shitty Citroën? If you have any tips, I could seriously use them. It takes me half a minute to get around the Andretti Hairpin, and that's if I'm lucky enough not to activate oversteer and go into a spin.

Help please, I've completed all the other ones except this one, the Infineon Raceway race with the PT Cruiser, and obviously the graduation test. It's starting to grate on my nerves.

What is the best car to win in 24h Sarthe2?
I tried with Toyota Minolta but after about 8 hours b-spec began to run half of lap with "red" rear tires before pitting in.

When you're 'racing' in B-spec mode and watching the Race Monitor, what are those orange arrow/triangle things that appear over cars sometimes? I guessed it might be when a car is drafting behind another or quickly gaining on it, but I've seen it happen when that car is gaining distance very quickly from the one in front of it... anyone know?

In a fit of procrastination, I picked up GT4 again a couple weeks ago. This time I concentrated on the nurburgring. After several days of casual play I felt confident enought to tackle the old enemy. And, after 2 days of surprisingly little cursing, I finally beat Mission 34. Oh man, it was sweet. About 20 minutes later the final license test was golded as well. That was easy at that point. From here on it's just racing and car collecting. =)

The trick was to have a magazine (or an internet board pertaining to the mission) to read during the bullshit 2 minute delay before you could start. If not, you start seeing red and all will just go poorly. You don't even need that fast of a lap to beat it. I saw an easy 3-4 more seconds I could have chopped off from my winning lap. It's just stringing near perfection together for 7 minutes that's rough.

Save Monza! [21 Mar 2006|10:18pm]

majarvis
I know none of you are interested in Formula One, but just sign it anyway, it can't hurt!

To sum it up, the Monza circuit in Italy was built in 1922, and is the oldest track on the F1 calendar. It is the modern equivalent of the Circus Maxximus for the Italians, and the spiritual home of Ferrari.

Anyway, two whining families who moved into houses next to the track, obviously built well after its construction, have taken a complaint to Italian court about the noise from the track, and have caused a ruling to shut the track down, cancelling all events in 2006 except for the Formula One Italian Grand Prix, and jeopardizing future events after this year.

A petition has been created, so please, regardless if you're interested in F1 or not, do it for principles sake; how stupid can someone be to move into a house next to a race track, one of the oldest and most storied race tracks in the world, no less, and then complain about noise... ugh...

Article about the story is here:

Petition here:

Thanks :)

A bed time story [14 Mar 2006|10:57pm]

busychild424
Being a Miata owner, I get a kick out of cars that are fast because they're light. So when it came time to do the Suzuki K-car race, I decided to max out my little Cappucino.

I took it to the test track to tune it. I figured the car had a pretty good power to weight ratio, but when I got out on the big oval, it became clear that I was a bit outclassed by the competition the computer had decided to provide.

Watch the story unfoldCollapse )

Look at All the Purdy Cars.... [15 Jan 2006|06:31pm]

[ mood | relaxed ]

Well it's that time of year again. The Detroit Auto Show is here again and hopefully it's as good as it was last year. I think last year's pretty much belonged to Ford because the foreign markets weren't really showing us anything new or exciting. So now that I've acquired the webspace to host these, I figured I'd show the pics from last year's show in honor of the annual event. I haven't been to this year's yet because opening day was yesterday and I NEVER go on opening day or a weekend because it's always ALWAYS packed! Because on those days it's 90% dopey ass high school kids who don't know how to act in public and I don't have the patience to deal with that shit. Also I heard something about Eva Longoria (that hot brunette chick from Desperate Housewives) was supposed to be unveiling the Chrysler Imperial concept at the show, which is a 300C replication so people will by it anyway. Eva's cute but..... she's a fuckin' airhead, give me Eva Mendes instead. So anyway here we go.

Here comes a nice 56K unfriendly post....Collapse )

i need a little help. in the professional events, the classic car race, what car should i use in order to attain maximum points while keeping up with the '66 AC 427 S/C? i dont want to use the same car, but it seems that i just cant keep up with this lightweight, high-powered beast. of course, i can "cheat" and use a 570hp+ stingray, but like i said, i wanna try to get more than 1-3 points. thanks.

elise vs corvette [30 Dec 2005|11:38am]

zarpgfreak
[ mood | bored ]

two cars: lotus elise 111r and chevy corvette z06. the elise is tuned to around 255hp, the corvette close to 550hp. on the menu, the corvette has a better power-to-weight ratio. both are tuned with the triple clutch, race flywheel, etc, and optimal suspension and aerodynamic setting. why is it that the elise is still a few seconds faster? its not a bad thing, i just wanna know why. i am guessing driving style and the fact i dont have to brake as much into corners with the elise, or i may just be horrendous with a 'vette.

Heel & Toe = no [29 Dec 2005|03:45pm]

ohmisunao
I've been practicing using the heel & toe technique(http://www.evilplastic.com/shifting.htm) while driving in real life to try to improve my driving skills.. so I thought I'd give it a go in GT4 even though there is no clutch. As it turns out.. the brake completely disables the gas pedal making it useless to even try to use heel & toe techniques in the game.. On the other hand since there's no clutch your revs are always matched making it not-so-useful to do heel & toe. I guess that's that... hey Polyphony, give me a clutch and this game may yet be the "Real Driving Simulator" that it's touted as.

a moment for geeking... [25 Dec 2005|04:19pm]

angry_user
I acquired a new PS2 for Christmas, so all again is well. (literally played the old one into the ground. no amount of "fixing" could revive it). GT4 is on again after a 5+ month break.
Naturally, aggravation follows shortly. I've run through all the rallies in the last 2 days. All but 2, anyway. Whistler, at the Ice Arena, reverse, on hard, is giving me fits. F the 5 sec. impact rule right in the ass. Such bs. I really don't know what to use at this point. I've beaten everything else with a used '00 STi I picked up. It owns. But I can't adjust it to get sub 50 sec. laps, and thats what the damn Coralla is getting. I'm about to shell out the $750 large to buy the Corolla and see if I can even get those lap times in it. Anyone have any advice?

note: I very well may be just retarded and incapable of driving this course fast. Not sure. Please let me know what you've used to get past it. We may be discussing suspension settings shortly thereafter)

Uh.... The Fuck Just Happened???... [24 Aug 2005|05:49pm]

modena_kid
[ mood | confused ]

Is it possible to actually damage a game by playing it too much? Because my PS2 has stopped reading GT4.... it reads everything else BUT GT4... just my luck huh? And I haven't had another console to test to see if it's my PS2 or the game that's the problem.

The weird part is that I've had it since day one, I'm only 29% through the game, I'm the only one in this house who plays the game, and when it's not in the PS2 it's in it's case. I've had GT3 since the day it came out and it still reads that so I wonder what's the deal here.

I've been having DVD-ROM issues with both my PS2 AND my Xbox lately because my PS2 has slow load times here and there... but my Xbox will stop reading the disc after about an hour of play. Anybody know any sites where I can order some replacement parts???.... Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. (reaches for burn ointment)
